How are your fluids?

Automotive fluids play a crucial role in the proper functioning and maintenance of your vehicle. There are several different types of fluids, each with its unique purpose, and they must be checked regularly to ensure the optimal performance of your vehicle.

What are the essential automotive fluids, what do they do, and how do I check them:

Prior to checking any fluids in your vehicle, make sure your vehicle has cooled down and you are in a safe area out of the way of traffic.

Engine oil:

The engine oil is responsible for lubricating the moving parts in your engine and preventing them from grinding together, causing heat, and eventual damage. To check your engine oil, locate the dipstick, remove it, and wipe it clean. Then reinsert it and remove it again to read the oil level. If it’s low, top it up with the correct oil

Transmission fluid:

The transmission fluid acts as a lubricant to the transmission gears and ensures they are functioning correctly. To check the fluid, find the dipstick, remove it, and wipe it clean. Reinsert the dipstick and check the reading. The fluid should be a clear red color. If it's a brownish or burnt smell, it's time for a replacement.

Brake fluid:

The brake fluid ensures the brakes work smoothly and prevents rusting and corrosion within the braking system. To check your brake fluid level, locate the brake fluid reservoir, and ensure it’s at the proper level indicated on the reservoir. If it's low, add the proper brake fluid and inspect for leaks.

Coolant:

The coolant helps regulate your engine temperature by absorbing the heat generated from the combustion of fuel. Check your coolant levels when the engine is cool, locate the reservoir tank and verify that the fluid is between the minimum and maximum levels.

In case you notice any warning signs such as decreased fuel efficiency, overheating, weird sounds, or unpleasant smells coming from your vehicle, this may indicate a problem with one of the fluids mentioned above. We advise you to bring your vehicle to our Claremont workshop to have the problem fixed before it worsens.

Ensure you check the fluids regularly to guarantee their optimal performance, and remember to contact the professionals at Claremont Tyre and Auto for any automotive-related issues.
